Problem Solving

A process that police officers use to analyze problems to determine the cause of, and appropriate response to a problem. Responses are tailored to achieve optimal results. Results are later reviewed to determine their effectiveness and whether a re-evaluation is needed.

The acronym S.A.R.A. represents this process:

Scanning: In collaboration with community members, identify/assess patterns and similarities in recurring problems.

Analysis: Study the target problem to determine the factors / characteristics contributing to the problem.

Response: Based on the analysis, develop a plan to address the problem.

Assessment: Evaluate the response for effectiveness.

Educational Program

The Center for Community Policing offers several programs to help promote safety and security on campus. Your group can request a guest speaker to attend your event or meeting and speak on several topics. The programs are flexible and can be tailored to your audience, schedule, or a particular problem. Utilizing multimedia and group activities is a fun way to promote safety to your group. See contact information below to arrange a guest speaker. Some of the available topics are:

  • Homeland Security and You — Protecting yourself and others against terrorist events.
