Q1: How do I license my bicycle? A: Bike licensing is free to campus community and the general public. Bring your bicycle to SDSU Police Department, front counter during business hours. [return] Q2: How can I file a citizen comment? A: In order for us to better understand the community's perception of our services, it is important that we investigate any allegation of inappropriate police action. Your criticisms and constructive suggestions for improvement are welcome. Each comment will be investigated thoroughly and corrective action will be taken when appropriate. You may speak to a University Police supervisor 24 hours a day by calling 619-594-1991, or visit our office in DPS Bldg. A: Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to take advantage of the escort service provided from dusk to dawn by Public Safety. The service is available to and from all parking areas and campus locations. To request an escort, call 619-594-6659. Campus emergency/duress telephones are located around campus and in all parking lots; calls are free of charge. Escort is generally provided by a Community Service Officer (CSO) in a state vehicle or by a SDSU Police Department officer in a patrol car. Escort may also be provided by a CSO or Bike Patrol officer on foot. Members of the campus community requiring escort service may call 619-594-6659 from dusk to dawn, seven days a week. [return] Q5: How can I get fingerprinted? A: Live Scan Fingerprinting is available at the SDSU Police Department Front Counter. The fee varies on the location(s) scan is to be sent. Pick up the payment form at the SDSU Police Department front counter, and then pay the fee at the Parking Services or Key Issue window. Bring receipt of payment to SDSU Police Department front counter during the hours noted above. [return] A: To get a key, you must have an authorized signature form on file. A new signature form must be filled out every six months in order for SDSU Police Department to keep up-to-date with those authorized to sign. The dean of your department or your department's authorized signer completes the from. For more information see Key Issue. [return] Q7: How do I report an item lost or found? A: Contact the Information Booth at the Open Air Theatre (619-594-6551) or Police Dispatch (619-594-1991) to report items lost or found. Police dispatchers receive calls and maintain constant contact with University Police officers 24 hours a day throughout the year. [return] Q8: How do I get a parking permit? A: Parking permits are available from Parking Services and University Cashiers throughout the year and from the SDSU Bookstore at the beginning of each semester. Faculty/Staff and Business daily permits are also available from the Parking Information Kiosk. The Parking Business Office, located in the DPS Building, is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at ext. 4-6671 or FAX 4-1015. The Parking Information Kiosk is open 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the Fall and Spring Semesters. On weekends or after hours, call the University Police Dispatch Operator at ext. 4-1991 or dial “911” in an emergency. [return] Q9: How do I contest a parking ticket? A: If you have received a parking citation and you would like to appeal the citation, you must complete and submit an Administrative Review Form. You must fill out this form within 21 calendar days of the date of the citation and return it to the Parking Office. Provide a complete return address on the back of the form for it to be returned to you. Once the form has been submitted, you will receive a response within two weeks. Administrative Review Forms are also available outside the parking window, located in the DPS Bldg. [return] Q10: How do I obtain a copy of a police report? A: Please complete a Report Request Application form, which is available here on-line If the report contains information involving a juvenile (under the age of 18) you must complete a T.N.G. Order for review by the Superior Court Judge. You must appear in person at the police department to execute this document. Your signature must be witnessed by a police employee or notary public, as it must go before the Juvenile Court for a ruling. The Juvenile Judge decides whether or not the report shall be released to you. Please plan ahead for this process. It can take approximately two weeks. You may call the SDSU Police Records Unit at (619) 594-5102 to check the status on your report request and to verify it is releasable, but please allow 10 days for your request to be researched and mailed. You must be an "involved party" or a parent of a minor child in order to obtain a copy of a police report or traffic accident report. An "involved party" includes the victim, reporting party, party mentioned, driver, registered owner, etc. If the case involves an arrest, the report may not be releasable until after the case has been adjudicated. You will be required to present identification to verify you are an "involved party." Your report may have a redacted (blacked out) area or missing pages. Redactions are specifically required by laws and policies that we are not able to circumvent. Typically, property crimes will only indicate the the damaged property, lost or stolen articles, and values for insurance company purposes to recover your loss. The investigative portion of the report is not released in order to protect the integrity of the investigation.
