Special Event Officers

About the position

The San Diego State University Police Department (UPD) has created a new law enforcement job opportunity to address the university’s growing need for highly qualified and exceptional police officers to work the special event venues on campus.

The Special Event Officer (SEO) will have a flexible schedule and will be able to sign up to work only the events that fit their schedule. The SEO will work on an as-needed part-time basis to support the university’s mission of providing a safe and secure environment for the public to enjoy the outstanding special events held on the SDSU San Diego campus, and eventually, SDSU Mission Valley as well.

Eligibility

  • Current or Retired Law Enforcement: To apply, you must be working as a full-time or part-time peace officer with a California law enforcement agency, working as a Level 1 reserve police officer with a California law enforcement agency, or be a recently retired (within the last three years) full-time peace officer with a California law enforcement agency.
  • POST Certificate: Applicants must possess a POST Basic Certificate (except for reserve officer applicants), must have passed their home agency's POST-approved Field Training Program, and must have passed their home agency's probationary period.
  • Background Check: All applicants will be required to meet all current POST regulations for appointment as a peace officer, including an oral interview, background investigation, medical evaluation, and a psychological evaluation.
