For several years, the San Diego State University Police Department (UPD) has explored partnerships and models to offer a multi-tiered approach to behavioral health crisis response. With this message, we are sharing information about some of our initiatives.

    2023 Annual Regulated Tools and Equipment Report

    In July 2022, the California State University (CSU) Board of Trustees approved the system-wide Regulated Tools and Equipment policy, as recommended by the chiefs of police representing all 23 CSU police departments. The policy was adopted and published as outlined by Assembly Bill 481, and requires every law enforcement agency in California to publish certain information annually regarding specified equipment.

    The University Police Department (UPD) is regularly practicing and refining its responses to incidents of mass violence. Therefore, UPD will perform scenario-based active shooter response training exercises with local law enforcement agencies inside and near Viejas Arena.

    UPD Virtual Front Desk You can now access the University Police Departmnent’s front desk virtually. The front desk is available Monday-Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., except for the lunch hour from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and university holidays.

    Gregory L. Murphy Sworn In As SDSU's Chief of Police

    Gregory L. Murphy, whose long involvement in public safety at college campuses includes positions in all three systems of California higher education, has been sworn in as Chief of the San Diego State University Police Department (UPD). Murphy was sworn in as chief at a ceremony on June 13 after serving in the position as interim chief since August 2022.

    Front Lobby Hours

    Effective Tuesday, May 30, 2023, the University Police Department (UPD) front lobby is now open to the public from Monday to Thursday, between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., except for the lunch hour from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. During this time, visitors can access various police services and seek assistance from the department.
